Human rights are increasingly under attack in many parts of the world, while those who speak out for human rights are increasingly threatened. It is within this context that France is presenting its candidacy to the Human Rights Council for the 2021-2023 term.
Gender equality is a priority for the French government. The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) spearheads this commitment through its feminist foreign policy.
On 3 March 2020, during Equality Week, the Simone Veil Prize of the French Republic was awarded to the Ecuadorian group “Vivas Nos Queremos” by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, and the Secretary of State for Equality and the Fight against Discrimination, Marlène Schiappa.
