Festivities on the 14th of July : French National Day
It is in his own home, in his residence in Zebbug, that Mr Daniel Rondeau, French Ambassador to Malta, has wished to celebrate the National Day. The guests have settled in the gardens, which had been decorated in blue, white and red, the colours of the French Republic, for the occasion. Among the guests were many ministers, ambassadors, representative from the parliament, high institutions as well as from the Church.
Mr. Ambassador, in between Dr George Abela, President of the Maltese Republic and Mr Lawrence Gonzi, Prime Minister, opened the festivities with a speech in French then in English. In this one, he mentioned for example the hospitality of people and the beauty of the country that make Malta a country where french people can easily feel at home.
In response to this allocution, Mr President Abela recalled the strong links, from the past or in the present, that bring France and Malta together.
After those speeches, the national anthem and the european one were played by the St Philip Band club from Zebbug, who also animated the whole evening with joyful music from their repertory.
The evening, far from being over after this, went on with the decoration of Mr Claude Busuttil, as a knight of the Arts and Letters order.
At last, a movie prepared by Mr Charles Xuereb was given on a big screen, showing an interview of Mr. Rondeau as well as pictures from events that have been important during his first year as an Ambassador.
The whole evening happened in a very convivial atmosphere, celebrating then not only the French National Day, but also the French-Maltese friendship.
