November 11th ceremonies
On Friday 11th November, the French Ambassador to Malta, Mrs. Béatrice Le Fraper du Hellen, the embassy’s staff and some members of the French community in Malta visited the graves of soldiers of the First World War buried in Malta. One hundred and eleven French soldiers rest in Maltese cemeteries:
44 soldiers are buried in Bighi cemetery (also called Capuccini cemetery),
31 soldiers are buried in Addolorata cemetery,
15 soldiers are buried in the Muslim cemetery (also called the Turkish cemetery),
21 soldiers are buried in Ta’Braxia.
On the occasion of the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme, wreaths were laid by the Ambassador, the delegate of the Souvenir Français Mr. Patrice Lanoue, and the representatives of the Royal British Legion on the monument erected in memory of the soldiers at the Addolorata cemetery.
