Success of the cooperation project « Koperattiva Rurali Manikata »
On the occasion of a ceremony held on the site of the cooperative on October 1st 2011, the French travel agency TouristraVacances gave nearly €5000 to the association "Koperattiva Rurali Manikata".
The "Koperattiva Rurali Manikata", association of Maltese farmers and volunteers, was founded three years ago thanks to a common desire to restore a medieval village and to plant vine yards and fruit trees in abandoned fields.
Since the summer 2010, TouristraVacances takes part in the project and offers Discovery walks departing from the Club 3000 of Paradise Bay. Part of the income generated is then given to the association, the idea being to support a local initiative and to contribute to the protection of the environment whilst giving the holidaymakers the opportunity to go off the beaten track and to enjoy local products.
This year, the donation will be used to replant lemon trees, to install information panels in Maltese, English and French and to further restore the medieval village of Manikata.
The success of this fruitful Franco-Maltese cooperation is promising.
