Syria - Meeting between Jean-Yves Le Drian and Staffan de Mistura [fr]

Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will receive Staffan de Mistura, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Syria on May 30.

They will discuss the situation in Syria, the results of the most recent rounds of talks under UN auspices in Geneva and the next steps in the political negotiations.

As President Macron reaffirmed on May 30, France believes that a democratic transition is necessary in order to resolve the conflict. It supports Staffan de Mistura’s mediation efforts aimed at achieving this within the framework of UNSCR 2254. It reaffirms that the inter-Syrian discussions must resume as swiftly as possible and that the regime must engage in them in good faith.

For now, France calls on all parties to comply with the cessation of hostilities and to guarantee full, unconditional and unrestricted humanitarian access to all populations in need.
