The French scientific vessel Tara , in Malta
On Thursday 28th October 2009, the French scientific vessel, Tara, arrived in Valletta Grand Harbour. Ambassador Daniel Rondeau and The Honourable George Pullicino, Minister for Resources and Rural Affairs welcomed Tara and its crew.
A press conference took place the same afternoon aboard the ship, with Hervé Bournaud, the captain and Olivier Marien, the chief mate.
A scientific encounter that united Tara’s scientists with local scientists was organised at the Malta Council for Science and Technology in Kalkara, followed by a presentation of Tara Oceans expedition to secondary school students. The aim of this presentation was to increase students’ awareness on environmental problems.
Tara’s presence in Malta was widely reported in newspapers.
Tara stayed few days in maltese waters and had the opportunity to do some scientific researches.
